I bought this computer one month ago and the price has dropped $305! I bought an Apple for its reputation as a reliable system. This one crashes regularly, especially when I attempt to use the help function. Also, it does not pick up wireless signals unless they are very, very strong. My six-year old Toshiba works better than this machine. Definitely not worth the premium paid.

Customer Review: starts with a bang ends with a whimper
I'm not sure if I have ever read a book that had such an amazing start and that then became so bad. It went from 4 stars to 2. One of the main problems is that about three-fourths of the way through the novel there was a major turning point and from that point on the novel was so boring that I almost quit reading it. Perhaps McCarthy was trying to do something unique with the non-traditional story structure but it didn't work for me. I felt like the story was done 100 pages before it actually ended. I'm surprised to hear myself saying this but skip the book and see the movie instead.
Customer Review: No Reason to Read this Old Book
As a regional writer("Esther's Race", Cloquet River Press, 2007;ISBN 97809792175001), I am always willing to learn from a master. So when all the accolades came down from on high about Mr. McCarthy's brilliant prose, I had to pick up something he'd written and give it a go. So I trundled off to my local indie bookstore and bought a copy of "No Country", thinking that I was going to be in for a treat. Wrong, wrong, wrong. What I got was a book long on senseless violence and sociopathic brooding with none of the poinancy of say, "Silence of the Lambs." The story moves along as if the ultimate goal is to dishearten and disgust, not tantalize and excite. I for one can get plenty depressed and morose for a lot less money--by reading the daily newspaper--rather than wasting days and dollars on a novel that would have been rejected by any publisher but for the author's name attached to it. To be fair, I didn't want my first and only exposure to McCarthy's writing to be based upon this piece of tripe so I did the unthinkable and went back to the same bookstore and bought a copy of "The Road." Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fine novel. Written in starkness and with all the bleak shades of gray that McCarthy should have used in "Old Men" (where the only color of the rainbow is black) had he seen fit to write something worthy of posterity. "The Road" is everything that "Old Men" isn't: beautifully written, gloriously themed and supremely plotted. "The Road" is like the best of Neil Young's music--stark, mystical yet heartfelt. In comparison,"Old Men" reads like purposeless heavy metal noise.

Like Sin City before it, 300 brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler (Beowulf and Grendel, The Phantom of the Opera) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads 300 of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham of The Lord of the Rings, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae. More engaging than Troy, the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable to Sin City in that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge, 300 delivers. --David Horiuchi
Customer Review: Great movie, terrible Blu-Ray... unfortunately.
This has been the least impressive BRD acquisition for myself, so far. By no fault of the movie itself though. Wicked movie. Snyder is great, and I'm looking forward to Watchmen. But this disc... I had terrible strobing / white dots popping in the image. This was in the background / areas of high grain / and areas with subtle gradients. This is a problem some people seem to have and not have. I guess I got unlucky with this disc. I have seen this image distortion on the Planet Earth BRD, but only for a few shots. For 300, this was happening throughout the whole film, making it almost unbearable to watch. I'm assuming it's a manufacturing issue. A damn shame too, considering the work that goes into a movie like this.

I have to admit that i am a bit behind on the times, because i just got around to watching this "movie". I had read the graphic novel, and it was amusing I suppose, Not a big fan of Miller or the movies based on his works.
300 really made my evening, seriously, I havent laughed that hard at a movie in years, well laughed that hard at a movie that isnt supposed to be funny. I get that its not supposed to be "realistic" in either looks or acting or backround but it quite campy and super simplistic and seriously over the top. Xerxes, oh how i wish i could just put him in my closet and open it up and make him talk to me, maybe sing a showtune or two!!!
I love Gerard, but he doesnt make the best choices when it comes to roles. I will forgive him for this one, perhaps he just needed to get into shape.

In this book, a boy named Mowgli is taken away from the jungle to live in a village. He does not want to go to the village. He meets Baloo the Bear who agrees with him. But Bageera the Panther says Shere Khan the Tiger will eat him. Shere Khan does attack him but (spoiler warning)they fight him and Mowgli meets a beautiful girl from the village who lures him to the village.
Customer Review: A great Disney classic
The jungle book is about a human boy named Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, until it is decided that he can't stay in the jungle anymore. Bagheera has problems getting Mowgli back to the man village, because Mowgli dosen't want to leave the jungle. Then Mowgli meets baloo the bear. After an encounter with the mad King Louie of the apes, and pressed to return to the man village by Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli runs away. Later on, Mowgli meets Shere Khan, the tiger. I can't tell you what happens at the end, you'll have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, halfway through the production of the jungle book, Walt Disney died. If you want more jungle fun, be sure to check out The Jungle book 2.

For a man who gets his biggest kicks surfing the waves and strumming his guitar on a lonely beach in native Hawaii, singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has carved out quite a remarkable career on the mainland. The drifting chords and soft voice are still in place, only now Johnson's instinct for melody has sharpened alongside his ability to self-edit. These small concessions make third album, In Between Dreams, his most conspicuous, particularly on tracks like the three-minute relationship drama, "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing," and "Breakdown," a song he originally recorded for Handsome Boy Modeling School's White People album remade here to reveal its full stripped-down loveliness. The MacBook Pro is great, looks great and works well. The only thing is the new operating system wasn't loaded to the laptop but the disk was included. Other than that, everything is great. Love it.

I bought this computer one month ago and the price has dropped $305! I bought an Apple for its reputation as a reliable system. This one crashes regularly, especially when I attempt to use the help function. Also, it does not pick up wireless signals unless they are very, very strong. My six-year old Toshiba works better than this machine. Definitely not worth the premium paid.

Customer Review: starts with a bang ends with a whimper
I'm not sure if I have ever read a book that had such an amazing start and that then became so bad. It went from 4 stars to 2. One of the main problems is that about three-fourths of the way through the novel there was a major turning point and from that point on the novel was so boring that I almost quit reading it. Perhaps McCarthy was trying to do something unique with the non-traditional story structure but it didn't work for me. I felt like the story was done 100 pages before it actually ended. I'm surprised to hear myself saying this but skip the book and see the movie instead.
Customer Review: No Reason to Read this Old Book
As a regional writer("Esther's Race", Cloquet River Press, 2007;ISBN 97809792175001), I am always willing to learn from a master. So when all the accolades came down from on high about Mr. McCarthy's brilliant prose, I had to pick up something he'd written and give it a go. So I trundled off to my local indie bookstore and bought a copy of "No Country", thinking that I was going to be in for a treat. Wrong, wrong, wrong. What I got was a book long on senseless violence and sociopathic brooding with none of the poinancy of say, "Silence of the Lambs." The story moves along as if the ultimate goal is to dishearten and disgust, not tantalize and excite. I for one can get plenty depressed and morose for a lot less money--by reading the daily newspaper--rather than wasting days and dollars on a novel that would have been rejected by any publisher but for the author's name attached to it. To be fair, I didn't want my first and only exposure to McCarthy's writing to be based upon this piece of tripe so I did the unthinkable and went back to the same bookstore and bought a copy of "The Road." Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fine novel. Written in starkness and with all the bleak shades of gray that McCarthy should have used in "Old Men" (where the only color of the rainbow is black) had he seen fit to write something worthy of posterity. "The Road" is everything that "Old Men" isn't: beautifully written, gloriously themed and supremely plotted. "The Road" is like the best of Neil Young's music--stark, mystical yet heartfelt. In comparison,"Old Men" reads like purposeless heavy metal noise.

Like Sin City before it, 300 brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler (Beowulf and Grendel, The Phantom of the Opera) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads 300 of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham of The Lord of the Rings, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae. More engaging than Troy, the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable to Sin City in that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge, 300 delivers. --David Horiuchi
Customer Review: Great movie, terrible Blu-Ray... unfortunately.
This has been the least impressive BRD acquisition for myself, so far. By no fault of the movie itself though. Wicked movie. Snyder is great, and I'm looking forward to Watchmen. But this disc... I had terrible strobing / white dots popping in the image. This was in the background / areas of high grain / and areas with subtle gradients. This is a problem some people seem to have and not have. I guess I got unlucky with this disc. I have seen this image distortion on the Planet Earth BRD, but only for a few shots. For 300, this was happening throughout the whole film, making it almost unbearable to watch. I'm assuming it's a manufacturing issue. A damn shame too, considering the work that goes into a movie like this.
Customer Review: A Bit Behind
I have to admit that i am a bit behind on the times, because i just got around to watching this "movie". I had read the graphic novel, and it was amusing I suppose, Not a big fan of Miller or the movies based on his works.
300 really made my evening, seriously, I havent laughed that hard at a movie in years, well laughed that hard at a movie that isnt supposed to be funny. I get that its not supposed to be "realistic" in either looks or acting or backround but it quite campy and super simplistic and seriously over the top. Xerxes, oh how i wish i could just put him in my closet and open it up and make him talk to me, maybe sing a showtune or two!!!
I love Gerard, but he doesnt make the best choices when it comes to roles. I will forgive him for this one, perhaps he just needed to get into shape.

In this book, a boy named Mowgli is taken away from the jungle to live in a village. He does not want to go to the village. He meets Baloo the Bear who agrees with him. But Bageera the Panther says Shere Khan the Tiger will eat him. Shere Khan does attack him but (spoiler warning)they fight him and Mowgli meets a beautiful girl from the village who lures him to the village.
Customer Review: A great Disney classic
The jungle book is about a human boy named Mowgli who is raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, until it is decided that he can't stay in the jungle anymore. Bagheera has problems getting Mowgli back to the man village, because Mowgli dosen't want to leave the jungle. Then Mowgli meets baloo the bear. After an encounter with the mad King Louie of the apes, and pressed to return to the man village by Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli runs away. Later on, Mowgli meets Shere Khan, the tiger. I can't tell you what happens at the end, you'll have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, halfway through the production of the jungle book, Walt Disney died. If you want more jungle fun, be sure to check out The Jungle book 2.

This is one of the few, and rare, albums that one will find in life that you can fall in love with every song on the album. I think it is a great compilation I also think that Jack Johnson has a very easy voice to listen too.
