Tired of Hype Opportunities? Check Out Online Bookselling

Every time I log in to my email account, I find dozens of ?opportunities? for making a ton of money ? guaranteed ? but the guarantees are as worthless as the opportunities. Sometimes, I wish I could meet the people that make these offers just so I could see if they would lie to me like that in person.

I don't know about you, but I get tired of reading "opportunity" offerings that are nothing but scams and I cannot believe some of the infomercials that are on TV. Are there really enough people out there stupid enough to buy those products?A friend of mine was in China a few years back to visit a plastic injection molding and machining facility. He stopped at a particular machine tool, a machining center (milling/drilling machine) because the operator had quite an impressive display of the various products he had machined over the years, some of which my friend recognized from advertising in the U.S. He asked the operator of this particular machine to tell him about his collection, but the man did not speak English and his replies had to be translated. When he asked, "Why do you keep all of these things here at your machine?" He was told, "I keep them around to inspire ideas for other products that Americans will buy." Later he was told by someone else in the group that the translation of the man's answer was not complete and that the man actually said, "I keep them around hoping to come up with my own products to sell the Americans because they are stupid enough to buy almost anything."

The same is true about many of the "opportunity" offers made in email solicitations, TV infomercials, magazine advertisements, and just about everywhere else you look. Somebody is offering something that is not going to make anyone any money except the guy selling the "opportunity."

I am not selling anything here, but I do want to tell you about an opportunity for a home-based business that can make you a few thousand dollars a month while working at it part-time, and if you opt to expand your business, it can provide you with a full-time income for full-time work. You are independent, you don't have to buy instructions from anyone, you don't have to send me or anyone else a dime to start in the business yourself.

Have you heard of Amazon.com, ebay.com, Alibris.com, Half.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Abebooks.com, etc? They are all legitimate businesses with established reputations, and you can sell used books through all of them as an independent bookseller. Sure, they will all charge you to list your inventory and a commission on each sale, but most are very reasonable and their fees do not mean that much if you are listing and selling enough books.

You do not need to buy the books you sell from any particular place, you can get them at garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, Friends of the Library fundraising shelves, book sales, used bookstores, etc., and if you know how to do it right, you will know the online value of every book you buy before you pay a penny for it, so your risk of losing money on any purchase is minimized. I have averaged over 350% profit from the sales of books online for over five years now, and that is from the sales of thousands of books. Where else can you invest a dollar and be assured of making $3.50 profit when you sell it. Note that I did not guarantee that you will make $3.50 on every book you sell, or that you will make a profit at all. I do not want to hype the business or mislead anyone. There have been books that I have lost money selling, and I have had to clear the firewood (books with no value) from my inventory shelves many times, but I averaged $3,50 profit on every book I ever bought for my inventory. This means that if I buy 100 books for a dollar each, sell 75 of them, and donate the other 25 as firewood, I still made $350 profit because my per book 350% profits include the books I discard and the ones I might lose money selling. It is really exciting to pay $1.50 for a book and sell it for $1,395.00 less than two weeks later, and that is exactly what one bookseller I know did last month. She made 92,900% on that one book and she found it the first time she ever went scouting for inventory! I have personally never made that much from the sale of one book alone, but I have sold countless books that I paid $0.25 to $3.00 for and made $50 to $300 selling.

So, what does it take to get started in the online bookselling business? Well, you need to set up a seller's account on one or more of the online marketplaces, you need to get some packing materials, you will have to buy some inventory to sell, you will need to list your inventory with the online marketplace, and then you will need to pack and ship the books you sell. The marketplaces will pay you periodically for the sales you have made. Some of them pay every two weeks, some once a month, and some will pay you via direct deposit to your bank. The keys to being a successful online bookseller are (1) dedication, (2) time, and (3) patience.

With respect to dedication, you will need to dedicate yourself to building an inventory and continually adding to it. There are some free online tools that will help you look up a book's online value using the ISBN or the title and author, and knowing the value before you buy the book is necessary. The time aspect would seem intuitively obvious, but like any other legitimate business, online bookselling is not going to make you any money if you do not put some time into building your business. Nobody is ever going to knock on your front door and hand you a business that will make you millions of dollars with no effort required on your part. I am not saying that online bookselling is going to make you millions, but it could make you a very nice income if you make the effort to build your own business. When it comes to selling your inventory, some patience is required. Like me, you may find some valuable books, list them, and then wonder why nobody has bought them after a week. Well, some titles do not have more than one or two customers looking for them in any given year. The key is to price your copy competitively, make sure your price remains competitive, and wait for the buyer to find it in the marketplace. I like to think of it as being analogous to fishing. When I go fishing, I do not expect to catch every fish in the lake, just the one looking for what I am offering on my hook.

If you are really looking for a legitimate way to make extra income or a business opportunity that you can scale to meet your financial requirements, you should check out online bookselling. I am sure that if there was a way to control the information and sell the "opportunity," you would have heard of it by nowFeature Articles, but most of the information needed to get started is free online and all of the online marketplaces have seller information pages to help you better understand the business and learn how to get started.

Incredible Hulk the Complete Comic Collection Win/Mac

Incredible Hulk the Complete Comic Collection Win/Mac
Incredible Hulk: The Complete Collection DVD brings together more than four decades of adventures that star a classic superhero. Nuclear physicist Bruce Banner created a new kind of nuclear explosive, the Gamma Bomb. On its first test, he was caught in the blast - but instead of being killed he was turned into a dark, distorted version of himself. He was transformed from a skinny, brilliant weakling to a brutish mountain of super-strong muscle. For 40 years, the Hulk's adventures thrilled audiences around the world. This DVD collects every issue of the first volume, from 1962 to 2005. That's over 530 issues in all!

Customer Review: Awesome!

This is a must have for any hulk fan! Yeah, some of the reviewers might complain about the quality of the scans, but it is a very minor issue, and overall an incredible (no pun intended) compilation of the comics. Also, I really like the fact that they scanned the entire book, advertisements and all. It gives you a sense of the times in which they were published. Pick this up, you won't be disappointed!

Customer Review: Comics on DVD are a great idea

I've got several of the Marvel collections of comics on DVD, and I've been very pleased with my purchases. It nearly impossible for the average person to get access to this much comic history in a printed format, even by buying collections and trade paperbacks. I enjoy being able to go back and read the comics from the 1970's when I was growing up one night, and then the next jump ahead to more recent House of M / Civil War arcs.

I do recommend a good monitor, however. A wide-screen would be ideal.

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, already a word-of-mouth bestseller in Canada, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living present, fully, and intensely, in the Now.

Customer Review: Powerful Clarity and Pragmatic Wisdom

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a spiritual classic, bestseller and translated into over 30 languages. It was awarded a member of Oprah's Book Club. Eckhart's newer book, A New Earth, is presently the newest addition to the Oprah Book Club. Oprah and Eckhart are currently offering a ten week online class that is accessible for free registration at Oprah's website. The first class was enjoyed by 700,000 people worldwide, from 139 countries and represented by all fifty states in the U.S.

Eckhart was born in Germany and graduated from the University of London. He became a research scholar and supervisor at Cambridge University. At 29 years old, he experienced a profound spiritual transformation that dissolved his identity as he had previously known it. This began an intense inward journey that radically changed the course of his life. He now teaches worldwide and lives in Vancouver, BC.

He is not aligned with any particular religion and yet his message does not exclude any doctrine or dogma. He is communicating that there is a simple and pragmatic way out of suffering into enduring peace.

Power of Now is a guide to breaking free of the ego, the mind-made self, with all of its problems and conflicts. Eckhart finely dissects the ego's characteristics so that we become more conscious of how it operates. Who we are is beyond thought, emotion and form. Yet our body is the portal through which we enter a new reality to realize harmony, peace and joy. He encourages us to become more aware of the silence and space all around us and then points to inner space and stillness. Through becoming more conscious, we find that we can be free of psychological pain and open to our authentic power.

Power of Now is divided into 10 chapters with 191 pages. The Preface is written by Marc Allen, New World Library and the Foreword is by Russell Dicarlo, author of Towards a New World View.

In the Introduction, Eckhart shares the origin of the book and that the truth of who we really are lies within us. Chapter One is a study of the mind; the greatest obstacle to enlightenment. Through still attention, we can discover that we are not what we are thinking. He defines enlightenment as rising above thought and that emotion is the body's reaction to our thinking.

Chapter Two begins leading us out of psychological pain by pointing to consciousness. He offers keys to unlock accumulated pain of the past and introduces us to the collective pain body that is suffering and constantly trying to feed on more pain. Since the mind-made self believes that its identity lies within its individuality, it is on constant search to complete itself through people, things and circumstances. He shares that ego's entire search for happiness is really a search for wholeness.

In Chapter Three, we move deeply into the Now, the dimension that is free of time and demonstrates that nothing truly exists outside this present moment. He offers the key to the spiritual dimension and how to access the Power of Now. All suffering has its root in psychological time. Eckhart masterfully guides us in a clear and pragmatic manner into the joy of being.

Chapter Four offers the mind strategies for avoiding the now and that it is delusion to think that we can ever be apart from it. He discusses the manner in which we dissolve unhappiness and ordinary unconsciousness to discover the inner purpose of our life's journey. In Chapter Five, he leads us to the state of presence and to realize pure consciousness; our divine Reality.

Chapter Six is a journey into the inner body, where we find an invisible and indestructible reality that is beyond our thinking. He shares how we can also physiological benefit by being present; such as slowing the aging process and strenthening the immume system.

In Chapter Seven, Eckhart offers portals through which we may discover the inner unmanifest that is deep within our bodies such as dreamless sleep, silence, and space.

Eckhart Tolle shifts to Enlightened Relationships in Chapter Eight and we begin to arise about relationships that cycle between relative love and hate. Our relationships and indeed our intimate partners are excellent teachers and a perfect spiritual practice to learn how to live in a deeper state of presence. He encourages you to give up the relationship with yourself, the false sense of self that is the ego.

In Chapter Nine, we discover that beyond the duality and cycling between happiness and unhappiness, there is peace. We notice the impermanence of the cycling, end the emotional drama, discover true compassion and move toward a new order of Reality.

The final Chapter Ten presents the meaning of surrender so that we are able to live in acceptance of this moment just as it is. We shift from mind energy to spiritual energy, while we transform suffering into peace.

Over twenty years ago, I awakened spontaneously and had no idea what had occurred. Many years later, I was fortunate to become friends with Eckhart before the publishing of The Power of Now. In fact, Eckhart encouraged the writing of my new book, Awake Joy. I would just like to underline the fact that you have the opportunity for a radical transformation in your life and that this awakening is the answer to enduring peace. It is the end of suffering for you, your family and the world.

Customer Review: However, for a five star inspirational and remarkably candid recounting

I recommend That's How the Light Gets In: Memoir of a Psychiatrist by Susan Rako, M.D. The title comes from a song by Leonard Cohen: "There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." Rako faced the "now" in her life with courage and integrity. Her book is wonderfully well-written and a great read. The writing just flows.

Bad Brains

Bad Brains
Legendary hardcore-punk album from 1982, considered the definitive landmark for breaking the NYC hardcore scene. All material on this CD was recorded at 171-A Studios, NYC, during August, September, and October 1981, except "Pay to Cum," "I Luv I Jah," "Jah Clling Dub" recorded live at 171-A on May 16, 1981. Liner Notes by Ira Kaplan. With Lyrics.

Customer Review: The Pioneers of Hardcore

They say punk has no memory. That styles and influences are forgotten only to be brought back by the next generation as something brand new. The Bad Brains break that trend with the immortal "Bad Brains" album. Every track is a blueprint for the hardcore sound. Sure there will always be arguments about other bands that came before or since but the Bad Brains not only laid it down in the studio but continue to tour today. Definitely a must buy for both musicians interested in the sound and fans interested in the music.

Customer Review: This Is Hardcore

I'm gonna keep this short because there really is no need to get in depth. If you like hardcore(and I'm not talking about all that crap most of todays youth is calling "hardcore"), you need this album. No one else sounds like the Bad Brains and they were pioneers in the hardcore movement.

Opening the Book of Faith

Thu, 07 Aug 2008 12:15:17 -0700
As I begin to plan my program for Christian Education for the next several months, I have been looking through the available resources for the ELCA’s Book of Faith Initiative.  Even though the entire resource is not yet available, those parts that I have previewed seem to offer plenty of insight and teaching.  I would love to hear from other pastors, DCE’s, and Sunday School leaders what they are planning for the coming year.  Anyone opening the Book of Faith?  I’d love to compare notes.

Customer Review: Not what I exected from Wilton

Having taken Wilton's candy course years ago, I wanted a refesher course. That's about all this is good for. Someone just getting started for the first time may find it a bit daunting. I wish that Wilton would re-offer their home study courses. They were helpful, instructive and well worth the price.

If you were ever hesitant of making your own chocolates and candies, this book will remove that hesitation forever. It is packed with step by step photographed directions and lots and lots of ideas. Great for the first timer.
